It is my pleasure to wish the Government of the Northwest Territories, the Native Women’s Association of Canada and all participants best wishes for a successful and engaging National Aboriginal Women’s Summit.

The people of Newfoundland and Labrador are proud to have co-hosted the first National Aboriginal Women’s Summit (NAWS) in Corner Brook in 2007.  That historic conference was an important stepping stone toward addressing issues faced by Aboriginal women throughout Canada.

Today, Newfoundland and Labrador is proud to pass the torch along to the Northwest Territories for the hosting of NAWS 2, July 28 – 31 in Yellowknife. I wish Premier Roland, Native Women’s Association of Canada President Beverley Jacobs and delegates continued success.  By working closely together and drawing public attention to critical issues, governments and Aboriginal leaders can be a great force for positive change. We are making a difference.

Sincerely,
